Middle School Track CONTINUES to dominate

The Middle School Track Program is taking off where it left in 2012 as it continues to dominate the competition this year!

The 2012 State Runner Up boys team was basically DEPLETED by 8th graders moving on to High School but did return four of the best athletes in the region to carry on the torch for the sprint relays. These four are 8th graders Robert Harvey, Danny Chavarria, Abongo Adongo(7th) and Tommy Speed. With the addition of Clay Ohnemus and Calloway Middle transfer Tanner Travis, the Murray Middle sprint corps can again be State Contenders. The jumpers are led by 8th graders Tommy Speed, Clay Ohnemus, John Seargent and Brandon Tish.  Speed is also currently ranked in the State for the Pole Vault. The Middle School throwers are stronger than ever with John Obrien, Logan Dick and Brandon Tish.
7th Grader Robie Marcum will also be in the mix as will 6th graders Chase Merriss and Will Lovins.

The DEFENDING State Champion Lady Tigers will be making a push for BACK TO BACK titles this year as they are simply on ANOTHER level than their competition. Many of these girls are winning events in our Varsity meets this year and are ranked in the TOP 3 for Middle School statewide.

These girls include 8th graders Ann Taylor(100,200,4x1,4x2), Abby Therrell (LJ,4x2,400,4x4),
Sarah McDowell(Shot,Discus,Turbo Javelin),Grace Campbell(HJ,TJ,100hurdles,300hurdles) and Maddie Waldrop(4x800, 400, 4x400)
8th grade newcomers Brittany Lawson and Channing Foster are getting Varsity action as well. Lawson in the TJ,HJ,100hurdles and 300hurdles and Foster in the TJ and PV,100 & 400.
8th grader Rachel Kindhart brings even MORE speed to the sprint corps when she comes over from her softball duties.
The 7th grade girls have some VERY talented girls contributing to the success of the Lady Tigers as well.
These include Annie Futrell, Lydia Grogan, Hannah Edminster,Neely Gibson, TyShea Allen, Sydney Coons, Taylor Pologruto and Sydny Tucker.
Waiting in the wings and contributing already for the 6th grade include Kess Kelly, Emily Reed, Campbell Homa, Nautica Beasley, Lizzy Curtis, and several others.

The coaches are VERY proud of the attitudes and efforts from our Middle School Boys and Girls Teams and are EXCITED about the future of our track program!! :-)

2013 Season Update/Recap for Lady Tigers & Tigers

With the graduation of 5 time State High Jump Champion Catherine Claywell, 2012 State Long Jump State Champion Cammie Jo Bolin, and 3 time defending Regional Pole Vault Champion Davey Mauney , Lady Tiger Track and Field Coach Mark Boggess had plenty of points to make up with his 2013 squad.
Led by lone Senior All State Sprinter/Jumper Lindey Hunt, the Lady Tigers welcomed with open arms members of the 2012 Middle School Girls State Champion Team and newcomer Madison Hines, a new freshman speedster from North Carolina.
What the Lady Tigers have been able to accomplish thus far in the young 2013 season has been very  impressive.
On Saturday they battled 18 other larger teams covering 6 states, and they brought home the runner up trophy with 80.5 pts.  The Saturday prior they were busy scoring 158pts claiming the Murray State Racer Relays Championship over 11 other teams.
Currently the Lady Tigers have athletes ranked statewide in the top 10 for 14 of the 18 events contested.
This includes the #1 ranked 4x100 relay team of Lindey Hunt, Ann Taylor, McKenzie Lamar and Madison Hines  and #2 ranked 4x200 relay team of Madison Hines, Ann Taylor, Abby Therrell and Lindey Hunt.   Hunt and Yasmine Homa are also currently ranked 2nd in the Long Jump and Pole Vault.  Venetia Jackson will also be a state contender as she is ranked 3rd in the Shot Put.
Coach Boggess attributes the Lady Tigers success to a “very talented group of girls with great attitudes who love competing and working hard every day, and who really enjoy each other’s success.  We also have a great coaching staff that is very committed to developing these athletes and pushing them”.
While the Boys haven’t had the same overall team success, they do boast some of the State’s top ranked
sprinters, jumpers and vaulters.  Both the 4x100 relay team of Jaleel Lee, Peyton Glynn, JD Cashion and Desjahvonni Miles and the 4x200 relay team of Desjahvonni Miles, JD Cashion, Lucas Anderson and Peyton Glynn are ranked 1st in the Statewide polls.  Junior Jaleel Lee is ranked 1st and 2nd in the Long and Triple Jump and Senior Pole Vaulter Stephen Orr is ranked 2nd.  Deshavonni Miles leads the sprinting corps as he is ranked 3rd in the 200m.
The boys currently have athletes ranked statewide in the top 10 for 12 of the 18 events contested .
Both the Lady Tigers and Tigers are on Spring Break but will have a busy schedule when they return.
They will be hosting a Multi Team All Comers meet on Tues April 9th, a Quad Meet vs. Marshall, Mayfield and Calloway on Tues April 16th, and they will host the 1st Annual Jimmy Harrell Relays on Fri April 19th.
Both Teams will be attending the prestigious Eastern Relays at the University of Louisville on Fri and Sat April 26th & 27th. The Tigers will be hosting the Class A Region 1 Championships on Saturday May 11th.
All Home Meets will take place at Murray High on the school’s brand new 8 lane rubberized track.
