Well we are at the half way point in our 2012 Season and our Varsity Boys and Girls have been rolling right along with Top State Rankings for Individuals and Relay Teams, as well as, school records falling!
We have been utilizing our BRAND NEW TRACK and facility behind MHS as we have already hosted TWO varsity meets and ONE Middle School Meet..One of those varsity meets included 8 teams!
So far the highlight of the girls season was when the girls 4x800 team SMASHED the school record by 24 seconds in the 4x800 relay with a NEW record time of 10:34.31 at the Racer Relays on Sat April 7th!!
The team included 8th Grader Linda Arakelyan, Frosh Bethany Vogt and Kayleigh House, and Senior Amanda McDonald..
The girls continue to dominate in the Field Events with Catherine Claywell breaking the school record in the Triple Jump - 34'3" at Marshall County's Invitation of the South Meet. Catherine has also posted a 5'5" High Jump placing her 2nd in the State - She will be attempting to win State in the High Jump for the SIXTH STRAIGHT year this year!
Other State Ranked field event athletes include Davey Mauney-Pole Vault(State Runner Up last year!)
Lindey Hunt - Long and Triple Jump, Cammie Jo Bolin-Long Jump(State Runner Up last year!)
7th Grader Sarah McDowell is currently ranked FIRST in the Region in the Discus and Soph Venetia Jackson is ranked FIRST in the Shot!!
The girls 4x100 relay team is currently ranked 1st in the State and the 4x200 team is ranked 3rd
Soph Kenzley Sparks leads our distance runners in the 1600 and 3200m and is currently ranked in the 3200
The girls team WON the 16 team Invitation of the South Meet at Marshall Co!!
The Boys have some State Ranked runners, vaulters, and jumpers also.
Field Events are led by Senior Steven Speed in the Triple Jump, 8th Grader Desjahvonni Miles in the High Jump, and Jr Lucas Anderson in the Pole Vault.
Jr Pole Vaulter Stephen Orr is currently tied for 1st in the State Rankings in the Pole Vault!
The running corps for the boys this year are led by Seniors Bob Fields and Cody Therrell who are both ranked high in the State in the 100 and 200 m. Joining them on the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams are 8th Graders Peyton Glynn and Desjahvonni Miles. The 4x200 team is currently ranked SECOND in the State !
The hurdlers are led by Jr Lucas Anderson who is ranked in both the 110 and 300 hurdles and Soph
Dylan Boone who has recorded personal bests in the last couple of meets.
The Distance crew this year is led by Sr Steven Speed but also includes So Quennin Taylor, Frosh Adam Lamkin, and So Daniel McGee.
Both Boys and Girls teams will be looking to win a Regional Championship on Sat May 12th this year.
The girls are the 2 time defending Region 1 Champions and reigning Area 1 Champions(22 teams in ALL classes)..Also 3rd place at State in 2010 and 4th place in 2011
The boys have been Regional Runner Up to Ft Campbell the past two years but will be looking to dethrone them in 2012!
